About

I am an Associate Professor for the Department of Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder and a Senior Research Scientist for the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). I conduct empirical research that integrates social science methods with communication and social theories to understand the social, organizational, and educational contexts that produce information workers and shape workforce beliefs and practices. I also conduct evaluation studies of social, organizational, and educational initiatives and tools developed and implemented by other groups. My dual focus is on enhancing the quality of education and broadening participation in the computing workforce. I use research findings and social theory to advise national and local efforts intended to create positive social change, through participation on boards and committees, consultation, and the effective translation of social science theory and empirical findings into understandable practices for use by advocates, educators, managers, and other non-specialists.
